Exploring Lake In The Hills

Lake in the Hills is a village in McHenry County with a population of slightly under 30,000.  Located 42 miles from Chicago Lake in the Hills is 10.44 mi².  Even being just a medium-sized village, Lake in the Hills offers 34 parks.  YES, YOU HEARD ME.  34 PARKS.  Parks offer everything from splash pads, to skate parks and so much more.  To see a list and description of all the local parks click here.

One of the greatest things about living in Lake in the Hills are the four lakes located here.   The lakes provide so much recreation fun.  Here many of our residents enjoy boating, swimming, and fishing. in Lake in the Hills, there is no shortage of amazing local amenities and interesting things to do.

Woods Creek Lake is the largest of the four lakes. It’s 50 acres of land/water. Goose Lake and Woods Creek Lake are great spots for fishing.  They are stocked seasonally with perch, walleye, sunfish, and catfish. Willow Lake and Lake Scott, are the smallest of the lakes.

Woods Creek Lake offers 2 beaches:

  • Indian Trail Beach
  • Butch Hagele Beach

The village is divided into 14 neighborhoods: Princeton Crossing, Cunat Court, Boulder Ridge, Big Sky, Harvest Gate, Spring Lake Farm North, Spring Lake Farm South, Bellchase, Summer Glen, Provence, Heron Bay, Meadowbrook, Cheswick Place, and Fox Ridge Farm.
